DESIGN | 2018 Kitchen Trends

As with any other industry 2018 has brought a whole host of new stunning trends & styles to the world of kitchen design. My designer vibes for the year are itching to play with textures, metals & bespoke colours; keep on reading to see an overview of the kitchen industries hottest trends for 2018.

Hues of Blue

We're only 2 months in to 2018 but rich & deep hues of blue are already being seen across the industry. It's always been a popular choice for for a moody & luxurious look in living & dining rooms but it's already proving popular in the kitchen. Choose Twilight, Ink or Dark blue from our bespoke paint colours to achieve a look that is on trend & totally timeless.

Open Shelving

Whether you're opting for a classic or contemporary style kitchen, open shelving is a great way to provide a focal feature by introducing another texture or material & another option of storage to the room. Open shelving is also a great addition to break up large sections of units & add some interest to the space. Dress them accordingly, add greenery & some personal touches to really make your space unique.

Industrial style kitchens have really been taking over the industry for the end of 2017 & the beginning of 2018. As a designer I love that the industrial style pulls different textures & finishes together to create a truly unique kitchen. If raw wood & stainless steel aren't your vibe, don't worry, there are so may different ways you can add a little industry to your space. For instance it can be achieved with both painted shaker & modern slab style kitchens; you can add a hint of industrial style with something as simple as a pendant light or you could go all in & bring some of those raw & edgy materials into the mix. The possibilities are endless.

The image below shows our Welford kitchen in a mix of textures & colours. The tarnished copper wall units from the MODA range, quartz splashbacks & dark moody tones of the graphite cabinets all add to a rather simple design & elevate it to a sophisticated industrial style kitchen.

This kitchen is a beautiful creation by Mowlem Kitchens. They have used a classic in-frame shaker & given it a new lease of life with some subtle industrial touches; such as the chunky quartz island worktop, factory style pendant lights & completing with wooden accessories. A very warm & subtle industrial look.

Painted Shakers

Shaker style kitchens will always be a classic & timeless addition to any home & even during the exciting colour & style trends of 2018, they remain popular & highly requested by my client base. They are warm, inviting & incredibly versatile in terms of being modernised or styled in a more traditional way.

Feature handles

With handle less kitchens taking the industry by storm, 2018 has seen the introduction of some beautiful feature handles across the range. Gone are the days of a standard stainless steel bar handle, now we can keep up with the trends by adding interesting & stylish handles to any kitchen design. Below are just 2 of my favourites from this year's collection that are sure to make any kitchen stand out.

Rich & Bold Wood grains

Adding a contrasting wood grain to your kitchen design is a great way to warm up a contemporary scheme. While introducing the grained textures along side lacquered colours & slab doors keep the theme modern & interesting. Choose richer tones like warm oaks, dark walnuts & wenges next to stark whites & greys to add a substance & depth to your contemporary colour scheme.

Brass, copper & gold accents are huge right now & can be seen across all the major kitchen brands. They are incredibly versatile & add an element of luxury to any style or colour of kitchen. Choose one finish or mix & match alongside stainless steel to add an industrial vibe to your kitchen.
